about

Esther Walker

I trained as a sociologist (I have a doctorate in Communication) and continue to be involved in academic research, teaching and writing.

In 1998 I set up Forum Interactive with a group of colleagues - a learning and development consultancy specialising in applying drama and active learning techniques to issues concerning the way that people relate and communicate at work (e.g. managing conflict, working in teams, valuing diversity).

If you are interested in knowing more about that side of my work, then please click on Forum Interactive above.

My interest in psychotherapy and counselling

I began to explore psychotherapy for myself nearly twenty years ago. Therapy enabled me to engage with the world more fully and enjoyably.

As a client I have tried out different approaches (which can be a good idea I think). However, my most effective therapists were those using Gestalt and that is why I chose to train in Gestalt.

My training

Foundation in Gestalt Psychotherapy (1 year - 120 training hours): involving theory, experiential learning and skills practice. Throughout this time I was in personal therapy.

Diploma in Gestalt Therapy (3 years - 478 training hours): involving theory, experiential learning, skills practice and supervision. Throughout this time also I was in personal therapy.

Following a sound foundation in Gestalt Therapy I am doing an International Postgraduate Training in 'body work' (i.e. how to create connections between the mind, language and our physical experience).
